YMAC factsheet – Consultation for Offshore Oil and Gas Projects

Following a 2022 Federal Court decision, First Nations Peoples are now recognized as “relevant persons” who must be consulted during this process. YMAC (Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation) is developing a consultation framework to help Prescribed Bodies Corporate engage meaningfully with project proponents, ensuring compliance with guidelines while respecting Indigenous rights to free, prior, and informed consent under the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
