Future Act Factsheet – NTSCorp

A “future act” refers to any proposed activity or development on land or waters that may affect native title rights and interests. Examples include granting mining or exploration licences, compulsory land acquisitions, or constructing public infrastructure. Under the Native Title Act 1993, such acts are subject to specific procedures to ensure they are carried out validly, which may involve notifying and negotiating with native title holders or claimants. These processes aim to protect Indigenous rights while facilitating lawful land use.
