In August of this year, the NNTC were excited to deliver Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) Training in Adelaide, hosting a 4-day workshop for PBC Directors from the Dieri Aboriginal Corporation; Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation and Antakirinja Mabu-Yankuntjatjara Aboriginal Corporation (AMYAC).

With an exceptional lineup of keynote speakers, the workshop was opened by Duane Vickery from ETMP Consulting who emceed the workshops set the scene identifying the training as a safe learning space for both participants and presenters, ensuring everyone felt comfortable knowing they were in a culturally safe space.

Jamie Lowe CEO of the National Native Title Council then gave an overview and update of the advocacy work led by the NNTC.

Angela Gibb from Redgum Legal presented on Land Rights before MABO, Native Title Rights of Native Title Holders, Native Title Compensation and Alternative Settlements.

Matt Storey from Storey-Ward presented on the importance of Financial Management, Director Duties, ORIC Reporting, Conflict of Interests and PBC Legal Obligations.

Duane Vickery delivered a valuable session on Clear Communication, Leadership and Healing Informed Practice.

Angela Gibbs, Redgum Legal

Tim Wishart from Queensland South Native Title explained details around What is a Future Act? and the Right to Negotiate and Expedite Procedure.

Finally, Shirley McPherson from Waalitj Hub gave a compelling session on Strategic Planning and A Way Forward.

Feedback from attendees noted the ‘training was very relevant, important and well explained’ presented in an ‘easy to understand way’ and with all participants indicating they would be ‘interested in future training opportunities.’
