Policy and Advocacy

At a workshop held as part of a meeting of the NNTC Board in Melbourne in May 2016, the process for setting the organisation’s agenda for the short, medium and long term was considered.  It was agreed that the NNTC needs to drive a national focus and clearly articulate what the native title sector wants for the future in order to give the sector some visibility for Governments at both the Federal as well as State and Territory levels.

The NNTC has provided written submissions and representations into a number of reviews and inquiries over the preceding years, including but not limited to:

  • Review of the Roles and Functions of Native Title Organisations by Deloitte Access Economics;
  • Inquiry into Commonwealth Native Title Laws and Legal Frameworks by the Australian Law Reform Commission;
  • Investigation into Indigenous Land Administration and Use by the Council of Australian Governments (COAG); and
  • The White Paper on Developing Northern Australia.
